Make your way to the Tench to see an interactive theater performance No Mercy. This new living history theater production was created by the award-winning theater company that produces Louisa's Walk, another historical play set in Hobart.
No Mercy provides audience members with insight into Australia's penal history through the tragic story of one woman who was sent to one of the nation’s most significant convict sites. The action moves between two courtrooms, so be prepared to move around during the 40-minute show.
The tale begins in Scotland where Mary McLauchlan was sentenced to jail in Tasmania. The action continues with her arrival in Tasmania in 1830, where she faces hardship and injustice. Learn why she was sent to the gallows, the first woman convict hanged there, and the aftermath of her sentencing.
You can also upgrade to take a guided tour of the Tench before the show. The walking tour begins at 2:30pm followed by the performance. Combining the two options provides an in-depth experience of the Tench, with additional access to the tunnels, solitary confinement cells and gallows, and is situated just a few minutes from downtown Hobart.行程概要出發地點

This was a powerful and emotional experience. We had previously visited Port Arthur and taken other tours that also recounted the early convict and penitentiary years and it was all interesting, but mainly at a cerebral level. But it was the penitentiary Chapel tour that brought it all together. The tour of the facility itself gave a better idea of the overall system of convict deportation and process of the early settlement of the continent, but even this was still mainly an educational experience. But then it was the “No Mercy” play that finally brought it home at the gut level as we, the audience, became involved as “participants” in the drama. The actors were superb and at the end I didn’t want to clap but rather just leave in silence to absorb the emotional impact of the experience.
