The spectacular Barron Falls, further upstream, are considered a sacred site. The famous Kuranda Railway and Skyrail Cableway also traverse sections of the gorge. The rapids are up to Grade 3.
This heart thumping ride spears through The Barron Gorge National Park and the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics. In the calmer sections you will get to enjoy the ethereal beauty of the worlds oldest rainforest and waterfalls from a unique waterline perspective. During the day you will also discover why the Barron's rapids have names such as 'Rooster Tail', 'Cheese Churn' and 'Hells Gate'.
All you need to bring is lace-up shoes (that WILL get wet), swimming costume and towel (you will need to have your swimming costume already on when you are picked up), a spare change of clothes and don't forget the 15+ sunscreen. You will be provided with safety equipment, including life jacket, helmet and spray jacket, as well as light refreshments after the trip while viewing the day's photos.
Australian Whitewater Rafting Grading System.
Grades do vary when water levels vary. As a generalization grades tend to go higher as water levels increases because of the steep nature of river gradients in this country. These grades are referred to as the NORMAL grade. Below are the general characteristics of the six grades of whitewater.
The Barron Gorge is graded rapids up to 3.
RAPID GRADE (1) Rapids are small regular waves.
RAPID GRADE (2) Rapids with regular medium sized waves (less than 1 meter) RAPID GRADE (3) Rapids with reasonable size waves (1-2 meters) with a need to hold on at times.行程概要出發地點

We went on this tour after a lot of rain, so what was billed as category 3 rapids was catagory 5 per the guide the day we went. This should have, at the very least, been told to passengers before the pick up so folks could opt out. The guide, let the passengers self-select where they wanted to sit in the raft. We had the two weakest, and most inexperienced rafters in the front. Many people, including our guide, myself 2ce and my husband were hurled from the boat. After the first men overboard, the guide gave more tips to the front rowers, but as the leader, he really should have put them in the middle and the strongest rowers up front.

This half day 'introduction' to WWRafting is good and long enough for most people. There is a day-long tour offered by Viator and I think this would be the next logical step if you enjoyed the half day.
The Raft holds six people and a skipper who works very hard to get the best thrills. We sometimes got stuck on the rocks - it happens.
We start with donning life jackets and I strongly recommend you hire their raft shoes. The raft fills with water to above your ankles so your own trainers get soaked, as does the whole of you. Flip-flops and slip-ons are not good as they are dangerous. Rafts automatically drain themselves so they never sink, in case you were wondering
I wore swimmers and t-shirt some people also put on swiming goggles to avoid water in their eyes.
The eventure starts with a safety briefing and trying out the various instructions: these are important as WWR can be dangerous. I felt safe with our guide who certainly steered clear of problems.
There are some big-ish rapids which throw you about some smaller ones and at one stage we get to go for a swim and flaot down minor rapids - like Baloo the bear in The Jungle Book.
Be prepared to get soaked and to fall in although this is not recommended, it happened to me.
You do need to be flexible and this is not good for people with bad backs or necks. You also need to think 'safety' all the time and be agile enough to move quickly within the Raft.
Professional photographs are worth it the helmets have GoPro attahcments too if you want your own.
Overall a good half-day professional team easy pick-up. There were gaps between the thrills of the rapids so perhaps a half day is indeed ideal. -

White water rafting was fantastic and the staff very competent and knowledgeable. Had an absolute blast and wished it had gone for longer!

Would have done full day felt cheated too little time but lots of fun. Guide was funny and informative.

A great, safe and exciting experience. Our guide Mez did a great job. We were ready for more rapids, but the trip was a great intro for new rafters and an excellent afternoon trip.
