The Alcatraz portion of this tour can be taken on the same day as the flight or the day after, depending on the selected departure time. If you decide to take the later afternoon helicopter flight, you must take the Alcatraz tour on the following day. Check the Important Info tab for more details.
Helicopter Tour:
After pickup from either Union Square or Fisherman’s Wharf, your combo tour begins at the heliport, where you’ll board your 6-passenger Bell Jet helicopter, a comfortable chopper that provides a smooth ride above the City by the Bay.
Your 15- to 20-minute flight provides you with amazing aerial views of the city’s famous sights and attractions: Alcatraz, Treasure Island, Angel Island, the Sausalito waterfront, the Transamerica Pyramid, the Financial District, the Ferry Building, Embarcadero, Coit Tower, the Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
While you marvel at the vistas, enjoy listening to a musical soundtrack and expert pilot commentary through your headset. Your adventure ends back at the heliport, from where you’ll be returned to either Union Square or Fisherman’s Wharf.
Alcatraz Tour:
You may take the Alcatraz tour on the same day as the helicopter tour or on the following day — it’s your choice.
The Alcatraz ferry departs from Pier 33 on the Embarcadero, which is an easy walk from Fisherman’s Wharf. Hop aboard and enjoy the ride across San Francisco Bay to the island, admiring views of the Golden Gate Bridge and city skyline along the way. The Alcatraz tour is independent and audio-guided; when you arrive, simply pick up your headset and begin your exploration of the historic prison.
The award-winning Cellhouse audio tour provides fascinating commentary about life inside the world’s most notorious penitentiary. Walk inside a cell, see where prisoners ate and spent their time, and learn about the legendary criminals who ended up there. We had a fantastic day! Shuttle pickup was smooth. The helicopter ride was unbelievable! The pilot was very attentive and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend the trip. The Alcatraz tour was very moving and interesting. Enjoyed the entire day!

My adult granddaughter and I toured the San Francisco from the helicopter and found it to be all it was touted to be. The pilot was quite good in his explanations and the places/things he showed us was great. My 26 year old granddaughter had never been in a helicopter before and she sat up front with the pilot and she was thrilled at the views he flew over/showed us. It was great to fly under, then over the Golden Gate Bridge. I actually left/lost my quite expensive aviator sunglasses is the chopper, and they took my glasses back to our pickup point. I notice that the "what sort of visit was this" does not give me the option of saying family (NOT young children or NOT family teens), but since I have to click on one, I'll choose family (teens).

What an awesome experience!! I loved the helicopter tour of the city. The pilot was an awesome guide and showed us awesome viewpoints. They provided comfortable transportation to and from the airport. The Alcatraz experience was very interesting. I appreciate all the email confirmations, especially when I had questions. Made everything really easy. Will happily book with Viator again.

We had toured the city by bus and on foot the day before, and it was really neat to rediscover everything from the air. The pilot highlighted all the points of interest and shared some information throughout the flight about everything we saw. We also loved the sound track they play in-between the pilot's comments. As the top of the Golden Gate Bridge was a bit foggy the pilot flew underneath the bridge which was really fantastic. He even spotted a whale between Alcatraz and Pier 39, and circled over it so that we could all see it. The landing was super smooth. A great experience and I would love to do it again. After the flight we were shuttled back to our drop-off spot near Pier 33 and we went on to enjoy our tour of Alcatraz

Alcatraz was amazing. They have done a wonderful job of preserving the site and the audio tour is exceptional. The transportation to and from the island is easy. The flight was no so impressive. It was very short and for some reason, the pilot kept referring to cost of the homes we were flying over, not once, but repeatedly. Who cares?

Please make sure that you plan most of your day around these two attractions as the travel time and exploring time is lengthy. Our helicopter ride was even better than I expected. The pilot was funny and informative. The audio tour at the prison was detailed and perfect. It was a full day excursion but so worth the time and money. Please pack some warm clothes for the prison trip.

Alcatraz was an experience everyone should have -
While the helicopter tour was wonderful (we were treated to a pass under the Golden Gate Bridge) the customer service was some of the worst I've ever encountered. We were told to be at the pickup spot at a certain time, for which we were 10 minutes early, and were still forced to wait a full 30 minutes for another group that was running late. When I called the office to let them know we had plans to be back in the city based on the time they had given us and this wait was going to throw that off, I was rudely told,
