    Your 3.5-hour scenic tour begins with hotel pickup and a trip by bus across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Enjoy panoramic views as you cross the bridge. To your right you’ll see the historic island of Alcatraz and sailboats gliding through San Francisco Bay. To your left, the Pacific Ocean stretches out as far as you can see.

    Just north of San Francisco are two of California’s most prized attractions: Muir Woods and the Mediterranean-style seaside town of Sausalito. Explore the winding footpaths of Muir Woods as you look up at the towering redwood trees surrounding you. Muir Woods is home to one of the few remaining groves of virgin coastal redwoods, so take your time admiring their beauty.

    Upon leaving the redwoods, it’s just a quick drive through Marin County to the quaint, postcard-perfect town of Sausalito. View the alluring main street, filled with art galleries, boutique shops and restaurants. Don’t miss seeing the charming houseboats that line the sparkling waters of the bay. If you’d like to hop out, make sure to purchase the ferry package so you can take your time and really explore.

    It’s your choice! Take a 30-minute ferry ride back to San Francisco (own expense) or to get back on the bus for the trip over the Golden Gate Bridge, with drop-off at your hotel.

    Please note: wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the forest’s often cool, damp climate.

    Extend your tour!
    After your Muir Woods and Sausalito tour ends, take a 1-hour bay cruise from the pier along San Francisco’s historic waterfront. You’ll pass the famous Pier 39 and sea lions and see the city’s dazzling skyline as the captain describes the major landmarks for you.

    A wonderful trip. We would have liked about another 30 minutes in Sausalito. The tour company was not organized and lost our verified confirmation. Took about one hour of standing in line for them to make things right. Very frustrating.

    The tour itself is fine, though the driver was less of a guide and more a knowledgeable local with strong opinions. Administratively it was poor; we were told on the tickets to go to the wrong office at the wrong time. The woman at the wrong office couldn't have been less helpful if she tried.

    I loved my Muir Woods/Sausalito experience! This half day tour is perfect for people who are pressed for time and don't want to commit to a whole day tour. Our driver was very friendly and knowledgeable about San Francisco and the surrounding areas. After we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, we stopped at a scenic spot for five minutes to take pictures. The amount of time we spent in Muir Woods was perfect, although I could have spent a whole day there because it was so beautiful. This is a great value for the price!

    My only complaint was that I paid $11 extra on Viator to take the ferry back from Sausalito to San Francisco, but when I got there the tour company said that the ferry fare was not included in the tour. I don't know if this was a miscommunication between Viator and Grey Line Tours, but it was a little disappointing when I thought I had paid for the ferry experience and didn't get it.
