You’ll have an expert local guide for this 2.5-hour walking tour of the 300-year-old Manayunk neighborhood in Philadelphia. The neighborhood has come a long way in three centuries. Hugging the Schuylkill River about 7 miles (11 km) northwest of the city center, Manayunk was once a mill town, home to thriving cotton mills. During the Civil War, the mills switched from cotton textiles and paper to wool textiles in order to provide blankets for the troops.
The name Manayunk is a Lenni Lenape word for ‘where we go to drink,’ which is fitting for the lifestyle of 21st-century Manayunk. Even more fitting would be ‘where we go to eat and drink,’ as there are over 30 restaurants (and, in total, 80-plus businesses) along the neighborhood’s Main Street, today one of the hippest streets in the city. It is to the restaurants in and around Main Street that your expert guide will lead you to some of the best iconic Philly edibles Manayunk has to offer. After tasting everything from baked goods at ancient Italian bakeries to legendary tomato pies to soft pretzels to a classic Philly cheesesteak, you’ll leave the neighborhood full but yearning to come back for more on your own.

Guide was fantastic, and the food was fabulous. Didn't know anything about Manyunk before we went, and hit quite a few highlights.

Our guide was great - he ran a good tour and was very personable. He shared stories about the area as we walked from place to place as well. We were a large group and he handled it well. There were many locals on the tour which is always a good sign.
The first stop was the best. I thought tomato pie sounded grose but it was wonderful! The stuffed bread was good too. We then got a huge soft pretzel which was good but so big I couldn't eat it all. Next was a peanut butter burger with jam dipping. It is just a quarter of a burger but very good. This stop also has bathrooms and they give you water. My husband asked to buy a Pepsi and they gave it to him for free. We then had half a cheesesteak which was very good and traditional in that it is just beef and cheese. We then had a chocolate and cappuccino. Now it was extremely hot so iced would have been appreciated but we had the hot version. It was the best coffee drink I have ever had. We ended with a red velvet cupcake which is flavoured with beets. I was stuffed at the end and so was my husband who has a big appetite. It was well worth the money. -
We had a lot of fun! Tried the best Philly Cheese steak ever!, learned alittle bit of the Philadelphia history...It was a nice walk through an old neighborhood. The guide was awesome! The only concern I would have is, after the tour is done...you are on your own to find your way back to your car....and it could be quite a hike for someone older. Other than that....Loved it!

Nice walking food experience in the Manayunk township of Philadelphia. Be prepared to taste quite a bit of starchy food, ie. Tomato pie, soft pretzel, philly cheese steak, sticky bun, cup cake, peanut butter and jelly hamburger, coffee drink. I recommend you don't eat before your tour. I wish they provided a little more history and age of some of the buildings/churches.
