Early morning pickup in Waikiki gets you to Honolulu International Airport for your 40-minute flight to Maui. At Maui’s airport, your guide meets you in a deluxe air-conditioned minivan to start your eco-adventure.
Your driver-guide shares fascinating commentary throughout your journey and expertly navigates the winding road, which runs through more than 600 curves and 50 single-lane bridges. Relax as you head to your first stop at Ho’okipa and Pa’ia beaches, both legendary surfing spots. Wake up with a hot breakfast and fresh Maui coffee as you watch surfers in the sparkling ocean.
Refreshed, drive to Puohokamoa Falls where you take a short and easy walk to the spectacular lower waterfall. Then check out nearby Kaumahina State Park and Keanae Lookout before following the road to Wailua Lookout for more great views. Next, stroll around the gardens at Keanae Arboretum and marvel at technicolor rainbow eucalyptus trees.
Enjoy a tasty lunch at Nahiku Plantation while your local hosts share Hawaiian music and crafts like weaving and hula dancing. Afterward, visit the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park where you might see wildlife, lava tubes, seabird colonies and more.
Continue through the charming town of Hana to majestic Wailua Falls, considered one of the most beautiful cascades in Hawaii. If time allows, stop at Haleakala National Park to take a dip in gorgeous freshwater pools at Ohe'o Gulch.
The road then becomes the Piilani Highway, which crosses Maui’s dry southern landscape. Pop into the old-fashioned Kaupo General Store for snacks before arriving at Maui Winery, located on the historic Ulupalakua Ranch. I really enjoyed the Road to Hana Tour. The driver was very informative and funny. He allowed the perfect amount of time at each stop to be able to see exactly what you needed to. We saw some beautiful scenary and was able to talk to the locals. I was a little disappointed that the winery was closed to tours.
