Once you've checked in at the shop, you'll meet your Surf Instructor, get suited up in a rash guard and take a seat. The "show" or land demonstration with begin shortly after. Whether you are a seasoned surfer looking for local knowledge about the Hawaii breaks, or a brand new surfer ready to catch your first wave, your instructor can help you with all the things you need to take your surfing to the next level. Your instructors offers surf lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced students.
Your instructor will give instruction to help quickly master the techniques needed to take on the legendary Hawaiian surf. Everyone in your group will get an opportunity to show off their skills and practice the process before heading to the beach.
Next your group walk across the street to the beach, don't worry about carrying boards, there's a cart that does the work for us. Once you get to the beach the instructor will set the boards up on the beach and help you strap on the leash. Off into the beautiful clear warm water you go. There will be a maximum of four students for each instructor. You will paddle out to where the waves are breaking, with your instructor by your side to help you and guide you the whole time.

Great Lessons with James! He was great and came down to my level and helped me, I'm old! This was a great experience, unfortunately the pictures I was promised were not taken. They had a camera-person on land taking photos, but not one photo was taken of me, and my lesson was 90 minutes!!

We had a wonderful time learning to surf with Big Wave Dave. Our instructor, Leah, was excellent and very patient with us. She helped our 9 year old Daughter get the hang of surfing and a real taste for it. So much so that she a second lesson with Leah before we left and we are already planning our return to Oahu next year where we will have surfing lessons with Big Wave Dave again. We highly recommend Big Wave Dave.

Once in a lifetime! We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, which was literally a stones throw from the surf sho, Big Wave Dave, everyone was so helpful and friendly and the instructors especially looked after the kiddies that were in our group. Word of warning: wear plenty of sunscreen! I'm not fair skinned so didn't think anything of it but turns out I was wrong. Also ladies dont just hire the surf top - hire the short/bottoms too! My thighs were cut and stinging from rubbing against the board. We opted to pay 80 something to buy a USB stick of all our photos and videos from the professional photographer they have on the day, only to return back to the USA to find another girls photos on my USB stick! Was so gutted as I now have not 1 single photo of me surfing, I even emailed Big Wave Dave as my phone won't connect from UK to Hawaii, but didn't get any response. Made even sadder that my now Fiance proposed to me that night and all I wanted was photos of our perfect day spent surfing! :-

You can't go wrong with this! My husband had never tried surfing before and decided to do a lesson while in Honolulu. His instructor was great and super friendly. He gave very clear instructions and feedback. My husband was riding waves within the first lesson and had a TON of fun! Perfect location.

My nose was broken by another female surfer not in my group that wasn't paying attention to her surroundings. I wasn't able to finish my lesson.
