Meet your guide at Castle Clinton, a former fort inside Battery Park in Manhattan. Enjoy priority boarding on the ferry as your guide accompanies your group to your first stop: Liberty Island. Along the way, you’ll hear historical facts about the Statue of Liberty National Monument, and its significance for people coming to America.Admire the New York City skyline when you step foot on Liberty Island for a guided tour of the grounds. Your ticket also grants you access to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, where inside you'll discover several observation levels and a museum about the iconic landmark’s construction and architecture.Afterward, board the ferry to Ellis Island and listen as your guide shares information about this historic gateway to the United States. Upon arrival, tour the grounds and spend time at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. The former federal immigration station processed more than 12 million immigrants from its opening in 1892 until its closure in 1954. Visit the restored Great Hall for various exhibits about the people who arrived here, and learn how US citizens can trace their ancestors to Ellis Island.Following a break for lunch (own expense), your 1.5-hour hard hat tour begins with receiving a safety briefing as you prepare to enter the abandoned south side, where the Ellis Island Hospital was located. A guide leads you to select areas of the 750-bed complex, which included morgues, infectious disease wards and psychiatric facilities for immigrants who needed treatment or isolation. At its peak of operation, the huge facility was staffed by the US Public Health Service. Follow in the footsteps of former doctors, nurses and patients as you discover the fascinating history of the hospital that now sits eerily empty.At the hospital, you'll also catch an art exhibit that features two dozen life-size historic photographs of Ellis Island immigrants installed on 16 interior walls. Visitors to the park are required to undergo airport-style security screening. Backpacks, strollers and other large items must be checked into lockers on Liberty Island. These lockers are available for $2.00 per locker. This fee is not included This tour is not wheelchair accessible All participants must sign a liability waiver to participate in the Hard Hat tour Each customer must wear a hard hat provided on Ellis Island for the tour Photographs are permitted, tripods and monopods are prohibited In the rare case that ONLY the Hard Hat tour portion is cancelled due to weather or safety conditions, a $30 refund will be offered Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour. The tour departs promptly and if late, you will NOT be able to catch up and will miss the tour. There are no refunds for missing the tour. One of the best tour I've ever experienced especially the hard hot part of it. Our tour guid was wonderful and informative.

Tom was a great information resource and very accommodating for photos. I like how he kept an eye on those of us who tended to loiter and offering alternative routes for those of us w/a few limitations. Good sense of humor. Really enjoyed the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Hard hat tour was interesting, maybe a little too long. I hope the funds come in for renovation.

This was a great tour and our guide, Tom, was very knowledgeable. He shared his own personal experiences in the city along with facts about things we saw along the way. The Hard Hat Tour on Ellis Island is a must see!

This tour was GREAT!!!! From Beginning to End, It was GREAT!!! Linda Shell, the tour guide is a Gem. She kept it funny,entertaining and interesting the whole time. The Hard Hat Tour was FAB. I was SOOOOOO glad we bought this tour. Will recommend it to everyone. !!!

We can thoroughly recommend this tour and the Hard Hat Tour add on was absolutely fantastic and well worth doing if you get the chance. The guide for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island portions of the tour was informative and friendly and the tour was well organised. We had sufficient time at each location to see everything we wanted to see. In the afternoon we did the Hard Hat Tour with a designated guide, who was again very informative. Being able to see the Ellis Island hospital as it was when it was abandoned was truly a privilege. This portion of the tour gave a real insight to what it was like for immigrants arriving on Ellis Island. I would say if you are unsure whether to go for the standard tour or the Hard Hat Tour then definitely go with the Hard Hat option. Not many people get the chance to go on this, so don't miss the opportunity - you don't know for how long it will run and for how long the building will be in a suitable state to be able to see inside it.
