The Whitney welcomes you to the Meatpacking District, a 20 square-block neighborhood with a bustling community of artists, galleries, restaurants, and nightlife. The Museum is steps from the High Line, Chelsea Market, and a short walk from Greenwich Village, where the Museum was founded by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney in 1930.

If I had known that there was no difference between buying from viator and buying my ticket from the cashier, I would not have bought it from viator. I would have bought it directly from the Whitney on line.

Truly a worthwhile experience to visit this museum. Lots of construction around it if you walk but worth the effort.

The new Whitney is very different from the old one. You really must go. The restaurant is great too!

World class modern art museum in a beautiful building at a great location. Modern art by american artists-- don't expect recognizable classics here although you may recognize a few of the names. Museum is located directly at an entrance to the High Line, NY's wonderful elevated walking park. If you aren't worn out from the museum, step out and stretch your legs. The city views will not disappoint.
Lines for the museum can sometimes be long earlier in the day, but are quite reasonable by mid afternoon. Allow at least 2.5 hours to stroll past everything, a bit longer if you want to linger and reflect on this terrific collection.

I went to the wrong place to see the Whitney. It wasn't marked on the old building that the museum had been moved. When I finally got all the way to the obscure new place only one and a half out of seven galleries were open. The fire alarm had just gone off so these annoying strobe lights were flashing on and off. I needed to get out of there quickly before I got a bad migraine headache. It was not an enjoyable part of my trip.
