Your tour will begin with a tour with a 1.5-hour visit to Destrehan Plantation, where you will learn the history of the Destrehan family sugar dynasty, see a Slave Revolt Museum that dates back to 1811, and admire the architecture of a French Colonial style plantation.
After your plantation tour, take a comfortable coach in central New Orleans and ride across the Mississippi River to Manchac Swamp, where you'll board your custom-built, covered boat. This Louisiana swamp is privately owned so you'll be able to take in your fascinating surroundings with fewer distractions.
In addition to sharing some local history, your guide will explain why wetlands like this one are disappearing and what's being done to save them. Feel free to walk around your boat to capture photos of the swamp's abundant wildlife, including alligators, egrets, raccoons, snakes, and nutria -- a giant rodent.

This was very informative, providing us with a good historical background on the Plantation lifestyle, economy, and the Creole culture. Our swamp guide Nolan was very good. Nice to hear from someone who really grew up in the bayous and to understand how so much has changed in that world. Having done a few swamp tours, I was impressed with the umber of crocs we saw...fortunately no snakes!
Then rounding it our our bus guide, Ken, had loads of info and insight on how New Orleans has come along after hurricane Katrina and the ecological damages that continue on today. Well worth the time and money to take this tour. -
This is a great trip. We took our 17 year old kids and they loved it. The two tours balance the "history" aspect and the wildlife. We all enjoyed it. Should do this when you come to New Orleans.

I enjoyed the tour. It gave me a good impression of what life was at the plantation and is around the swamp. Alton was an excellent driver and Midge was a great tour guide . I live in the Pacific Northwest, so the south is a different environment than what I live in.

This tour was great, even on a cloudy and rainy day! Plantation tour was interesting, and the trees were absolutely gorgeous. The swamp tour had an excellent guide, that wanted you to have a good time and see as many animals as possible, even if on an imperfect weather day.

Destrehan Plantation Plantation is the first stop. It is a beautiful restoration that has been undertaken by the local historical society. It was in a total shambles. The history is very interesting and was very well presented by our guide Katherine. Well worth the trip.
Next stop was Cajun Pride Swamp Tours. Brandon was our captain. He was very knowledgeable. He brought small turtles crawfish etc including a baby alligator for a real hands on experience.

Brandon was a hoot! Plus loved having the reptiles on the boat was a great educational and fun experience. Plus I got to hold a gator!!! Helllllurrrr

This tour was simply AMAZING! You will see the Destrehan plantation and learn about the family. You will also see hand-made and hand-carved pieces of furniture that are simply out of this world. You will see how people lived in previous generations. And you'll see amazing landscapes and trees that are hundreds of years old.
You will end the tour with a SUPER FUN swamp boat ride. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the swamp tour was SO MUCH fun. Make sure you get Captain Tom. Definitely take this tour! You'll miss out on a lot of history, culture and fun if you don't take it.

We really enjoyed this tour with great information provided on the tour of the plantation and the swamp boat ride was also awesome on the Bayou.

Swamp tour very good. Plantation tour is poor. No recognition of slavery or what happened. The guide focuses on the family that lived there and refused to answer question on salves. Very uncomfortable and wouldn’t recommend. Swamp tour is good but suggest doing that by itself.
