    If you choose the round-trip transportation, you'll meet at the New Orleans Marriott, conveniently located on Canal Street in the French Quarter, and board the comfortable 32-person air-conditioned coach for the 1-hour journey to Houmas House Plantation.
    Upon arrival at the plantation, you are welcomed and directed to either the mansion to start the tour, or to the gardens where you can stroll on your own until the appointed time for your house tour. The home was completed in 1828, and by the height of the plantation's production in the late 1800s, more than 20 million pounds of sugar were produced per year. You have the option to take a self-guided tour through the lavish 38-acre (15-hectare) estate, complete with manicured gardens, walking paths and sitting nooks.
    Head to the mansion’s entrance at the appointed time to meet your guide for your 1-hour tour. Dressed in period costume, your guide provides an educational and theatrical glimpse of the old South as you examine antiques and artwork that decorate the mansion's 16 ornately furnished rooms. You also see the room where Bette Davis stayed while filming for the 1963 movie Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte. You are welcome to take photos throughout the mansion.
    Before or after your guided tour, feel free to explore the grounds on your own, or take a break at one of the estate’s restaurants or cafe, where you can purchase a Louisiana-style lunch or snack, perhaps accompanied by a mint julep or a glass of wine.
    After about 3.5 hours at the plantation, your coach returns you to the starting point to end your tour, if transportation option selected.

    Excellent tour! Would highly recommend, our tour guide Susan was very informative. We had lunch at the restaurant which was quite enjoyable.

    We loved the tour. Very personable. We took the tour where our transportation was included. We just felt like we needed another hour there. We felt rushed and not able to really enjoy our afternoon long enough. We would definitely take this tour again and recommend it!

    The Tour was GREAT! BUT I was told the tour with transportation was 3.5 hours and it was 6!!!! So if you are a tight schedule you may miss your plane!! :

    This trip via Old South Tours was one of the favourite parts of our recent stay in New Orleans. Keith our driver was gentile. The trip was well organized as we received a day before call about a pick up change due to Mardi Gras. The house tour was excellent. The garden self tour beautiful and the buffet at their cafe was the best food that I had during our three day NOLA stay. Lauren was a great server and the atmosphere and service throughout the cafe first rate. Their mint juleps were excellent and a perfect way to end the day in this stunning antebellum planter's home. We are Bette Davis fans and loved the connection and stories surrounding her stay there.

    This tour was fantastic. The initial selling point for me was that transportation was provided from New Orleans. However, after we got there, the grounds, the tour guide, Liz, and the restaurant were simply excellent. I honestly believe this tour offers a good representation of plantation life. The absence of evidence of slave residence is regrettable, but that cannot be helped. Southern history is more complicated that most folks want to admit. I would take this tour again in a heartbeat.
