St Louis #1 Cemetery is the oldest active New Orleans cemetery and the most haunted cemetery in Louisiana. In one city block, you’ll find over 700 tombs, and over 100,000 dead. Join us on this fun, daytime cemetery walking tour and enjoy the history behind the unique burial customs that make this possible.
Founded in 1789 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, St. Louis #1 is New Orleans’ oldest active City of the Dead. Ornate, crumbling, and entrancing, St. Louis #1 is eerily beautiful even in the daytime. This New Orleans cemetery is the final resting place of the notorious Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, as well as many other colorful New Orleanians. Venture inside the vault lined walls of this historic New Orleans cemetery with your master storyteller and visit the New Orleans Musicians’ Tomb and the future tomb of Nicholas Cage.

If you are able to choose your guide for this tour, I would highly recommend Dartanya. She was so knowledgeable and friendly. The way she told the story of Marie Laveau drew us in, and kept us engaged. It was a great tour!

Great tour and the correct amount of time. Cemetery can get VERY hot if the sun is out and VERY wet when it thunderstorms (which is daily in August) -- be prepared there is minimal shade and no protection during the walking portion of the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided information about past as well as present politics, religion and social practices. He also talked loud enough to be heard with group of 22. Guides are working for tips -- not on salary.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. According New city regulations, visitors may only visit with a guide.
Very knowledgeable guide and interesting trivia.
Was a bit too long for me, but definitely worthwhile. -
The history of the cemetery was very informative, and our guide was very gracious. She took time to explain things and gave us time to explore the different tombs that are present in the Cemetery.
