Your 8-hour central Maui day trip begins with a pickup at your hotel. Meet your expert guide and get ready for an immersive look at many of Maui’s unique highlights, including scenic drives through its valleys and agricultural regions, walks through its state and national parks, and a glimpse at the seat of its government.
Your day kicks off with dramatic views at Haleakala National Park, covering 33,000 acres of rocky, volcanic wilderness and home to a variety of wildlife. Summit Maui’s 10,023-foot (3,007-meter) dormant volcano while learning about its geologic history on the driving ascent. Take in the tropical scenery and expansive views before driving on to the next piece of eye candy: the Iao Needle located in Iao Valley State Park.
The needle is a fascinating erosional pinnacle rising 1,200 feet (366 meters) from the Iao Valley floor and surrounded by a volcanic crater. Walk along a short trail to a panoramic overlook and enjoy the view. Nearby, learn about the Kaahumanu Church, named after Queen Kaahumanu and erected in 1876. Spend 30-minutes admiring its architecture and views of Iao Valley.
Next, get a dose of Hawaiian culture on a drive through the city of Wailuku, the seat of Maui’s government and location of its historic state and federal buildings. Listen to your guide as you ride past Maui’s famous flower farms, pineapple fields and sugar cane plantations. Be sure to bring your camera — these are sights unlike anywhere else. This tour was okay, but not great. Haleakala itself was outstanding and the scenery at Iao valley was very nice, too. However, the length of the tour could have been much shorter -- transfers took a lot of time. No food or drink was provided (unlike some other tours in Maui). There was a lunch stop, but everyone had to pay for his or her food.

This tour is operated by Polynesian Adventure Tours. This tour was very unorganized and disappointing. Overall we felt scammed. Viator advertises this tour as 9 hours and that is incorrect it was 6 hours. There were only two thirty minute stops and an hour and a half for lunch which was at a restaurant that was not even included. First our Tour guide Michael, forgot to pick up some people at a hotel and we had to wait around until they were dropped off at our first stop. Despite this being an error on the tour company, it cut into our tour time. The voucher clearly states that if you are not at your hotel for pickup the tour company will call your cell phone. Clearly that did not happen. At the Haleakala crater, we were only allowed to stop for 30 minutes. We were not taken to the summit while other tour groups were allowed. This made some people angry because they have been on these tours before and were allowed to go to the summit. The visitor center was closed due to the government shutdown. I understand this is beyond the tour companies control but no alternatives were planned. It was very rushed.The biggest scam was lunch which is advertised as central Maui We were told to bring money for lunch because it was not included. However we were forced to dine at a restaurant, pay for our own overpriced food with lousy service, and the tip was automatically included in the bill. This was insane!! We spent more time here then the other two stops. Finally we were taken to Iao valley and again it was very rushed. Before we were able to look around we were already due back at the bus and the tour guide looked very annoyed and kept looking at his watch. I would recommend going with another tour company to see the Haleakala crater and Iao Valley. I have been on many tours in many different places and this was the most disappointing tour. The sites were gorgeous but I was too disappointed from feeling scammed. I am not rich, I save my money to enjoy these once and a lifetime experiences and Polynesian adventure tours took advantage of that.

This tour was enjoyable, and our guide, Judy, was fun and informative. It really cannot be called an ag tour, as we just drove through mostly fallow farmland, but the rest was as described - and the guide gave us lots of information and fun facts. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate, and the crater at the top was completely engulfed in fog, but the trip was well worth it.

Well organized tour in small group to visit central Maui away from the beaches. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made everything possible to make the day trip enjoyable.

We really enjoyed our day on this tour. Our driver told wonderful stories and was a very nice man. So glad we could leave the driving to someone else while we enjoyed the view.
The remaining comments are only for the company and I do not want to include in the review. We called the local phone number the day before our trip and were told that we would be picked up at our hotel at 6:30 rather than 600AM. But there must have been an automated phone system that left 1 message on our answering machine in Maui and 2 messages on our home phone machine in Seattle that our driver was waiting for us and was needing to leave without us. I find that a bit annoying that your system isn't in touch better with your local people. thanks

Perfect tour. Definitely wear very warm clothing. The wait in the cold, the very early rise....all worth the incredible view.

This was a wonderful tour and really worth the money. There was hotel pickup and drop off with food, snacks and drinks also provided. Our tour guide was excellent and stopped at all the viewing places on the way and also explained to us in detail all the roadside views too while driving with full attention. This tour should absolutely be a part of every Maui vacation....!!

Our main goal was to see Haleakala and we were not disappointed by the beautiful scenery. We were lucky to have weather on our side when we visited Nov 9 2017. Our tour bus only took us up to the visitor's center as we were informed that the summit which was 0.5 miles away up a slope is not accessible to tour buses, only people in cars or on foot. Truth is if we could have 20 more minutes, we could have walked up to the summit. That is a pity, particularly in light of how much we spent stuffing around elsewhere see below!
But what is quite a negative for us is the organization of the tour. Our party of 3 were picked up from our hotel at Kaanapali at 6.15am and, along with 4 other people picked up along the way, taken to a car park at Maalaea. We arrived at Maalaea at around 6.45am. Then the driver said something about having to wait because our driver had not arrived. He did not explain further. Eventually the real tour bus and driver arrived at around 7.20am and told us that we had to wait till 7.45am to leave to go to the airport at Kahului to pick up some others arriving from Waikiki. By the time everyone was assembled it was 8.30am before we actually started the tour. We had wasted 2 whole hours of our time and rather frustrated because that arrangement was not made clear to us from the start. Had we been clearly told upfront, we could at least have gone and checked out Maalaea while we were idly waiting around at the car park.
After Haleakala, the tour guide announced that we were going to a restaurant at Makawao for lunch where tables had been booked for us. We all knew that the tour did not include lunch but nothing was said in the tour info about being taken to a designated restaurant. We ate at the restaurant anyway as we were too embarrassed not to, particularly since the restaurant staff came out to meet us at the parking lot. The food quality was good but we were not happy we were not told of this arrangement upfront and did not feel like we had a choice not to eat there. A couple of fellow travelers did choose not to eat at the restaurant because they had packed their own lunch - they were also annoyed by the lack of communication in this regard.
All in all - the scenery was great but there is much room for improvement in terms of managing customer expectations with better communication.
