Your Maui shore excursion starts when you are picked up from your cruise ship port. First, you’ll head to the Maui Coral Factory to see how black coral is transformed from its raw form into beautiful jewelry.
Discover the small town of Makawao, home to the paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) and a lively art community. Drive up to the protea farms of Kula to discover the unusual flowers that flourish in the Kula area of Maui. Continue ascending into upcountry Maui, where you’ll see ranches, rare flora and fauna, and farms with lofty views.
You’ll then reach Haleakala Crater, the "House of the Sun." The dormant volcano last released its fury in 1790. More than 200 years later, the land surrounding the lava flow is still barren. The summit rises 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level. The crater is 3,000 feet deep, 7.5 miles (12 km) long, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide and 22 miles (35 km) in circumference. From here, you’ll enjoy expansive views over the island.

Guide talked in broken English and told off offensive stories and jokes

Roberts Hawaii bus driver Bobby was not the best driver and tour guide. Interacted with several people from Ga and really didn't have much to comment. Said he was due to retire well I believe he's overdue because he is just putting his time in. Didn't even get out of the bus at the crater.Really this tour is overrated.

It was so foggy and misty that we could not see anything. A great big disappointment.

Great day. We had a great guide, comfortable coach, fantastic switch back roads with great views up to crater. The crater was amazing but word to wise, leave your hats on the bus - the winds up there are unbelievable. All in all a great day. T'N'T

Awesome view from the top of the trail. The driver was entertaining and informative.

The trip was operated by the major Hawaiian tour company,using a first class coach, picking up/dropping off at the same place as the cruise ship's own tour. It also did the same itinerary but at a vastly reduced price! Unfortunately, the weather was wet and cloudy up to 7,000 feet but above that we were in sunshine and, at 10,000 feet, the crater looked like your publicity photo.
We found the Driver's running commentary on the sights (including those we could barely see), the landscape and geology very informative and, at times, hilarious. He deserved full marks.

Unfortunately it I was totally overcast at the top so we could not see anything and even with warm sweaters and jackets it was very cold at the visitor information place. Fortunately inside the building was good shelter from the strong, cold wind. My companion had seen this crater in November and was so impressed that she wanted to see it again. She was even more disappointed than I because she knew how fabulous it could be!

Not as interesting as we'd hoped.

Amazing views of the crater and the island. Don't forget to bring a jacket, there were people walking around in summer shirts and they were very cold.
