At Passages, you can view a working replica of Gutenberg's Print Shop and try your hand at printing while you learn about the history of the Bible's textual transmission. You can travel to the surface of the moon to see a microfiche copy of the KJV Bible that landed on the moon during the Apollo 14 mission, as well as the Caves of Qumran, actual fragments from the Dead Sea Scrolls and stunning facsimiles of some of the oldest surviving manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible.
You will also learn how translation has been an important part of the Bible’s history for more than two thousand years. You will see
a first edition of the King James Bible, printed in 1611 under the reign of King James I of England and meet St. Jerome, a scholar who spent over 30 years translating the Bible into Latin from the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
You can see a letter written and signed by Martin Luther on the night before he was charged with heresy, providing valuable insight into the thoughts of the most important theologian of the Reformation, and how the Bible was featured in the tragedy of the Holocaust as the Nazis desecrated countless Jewish scrolls while justifying their actions with certain Biblical texts.
