After a day on the slopes, unwind with some window shopping or sate your appetite with the base village's 35 specialty shops and restaurants.
For the best quality and quantity of snow, with an average of 500 inches (1,270 cm) of snowfall in the winter and the deepest snowpack in the region, excellent skiing in never in short supply at Kirkwood. Located 35 miles (56 km) south of South Lake Tahoe, tucked away in the Eldorado National Forest, this ski resort is a hidden gem. Skip the crowds of other ski resorts to discover Kirkwood's 2,300 acres (931 hectares) with two separate base areas and the mountain unique ridge line for spectacular cliff drops. Its perfect for the novice with an unrivaled standalone beginner facility and challenging enough for advanced skiers with cliff-walled, double-diamond chutes.
