Head to Poipu Beach Park for a hiking safety briefing, and then relax on the scenic 1-hour drive along the coast and inland to Waimea Valley, the gateway to jaw-dropping Waimea Canyon.Don your hiking shoes for a moderate 6-mile (10-km) hike with an elevation gain of 600 feet (183 meters) ─ suited for people of moderate fitness. Embarking from the trailhead, hike deep into Kauai’s ancient lands, and discover hidden paths, verdant landscapes and picturesque waterfalls.Listen to your guide tell myths of the legendary Menehune, tiny people who were believed to roam the deep forests of this region, and observe incredible hieroglyphs left by some of the Hawaiian civilizations that inhabited the island before the arrival of Captain Cook.Walk along the winding Waimea River, and enjoy refreshing swims in glistening streams along the way.
