Set out in the morning or afternoon along this central business district, home to many of the city’s iconic structures. Expect to cover a half mile (0.8 km) during an easy 2-hour stroll with plenty of stops to focus on the visual experience of downtown Chicago and get in-depth perspectives on its history.
Enter into a church in a skyscraper, and slip inside the former Marshall Field and Company Building for a glimpse of the Tiffany & Co designed ceiling decorating the atrium. Pass through the contemporary shopping and dining complex of Block 37 on State Street, and see the untitled 50-foot-tall (15-meter) Picasso sculpture at Daley Plaza.
Along the way, learn about the Windy City’s art history and architectural design with your expert tour guide, and view archival images of Chicago with maps, historic photos, and documentary video clips on shared ipads. You’ll also maneuver through the Chicago Pedway System ─ a network of climate-controlled underground concourses, passages and sky-bridges that connects buildings throughout downtown.

We had a very nice time on this tour. It was a very interesting tour with lots of information about a number of the buildings in the loop. I was surprised to find all sorts of interesting things in buildings that I had walked by a dozen times and never knew were there. For those who have taken the boat tour of architecture, the overlap with this tour is minimal as much of it concentrates on the interior of buildings.

We are a family of 5 with 3 teenagers who really enjoyed the tour. It had historical and practical information presented in an entertaining way.

The tour was very good. We had a great docent and a nice group of people. The thing that we enjoyed the most was the Marshall Field building.

Our tour guide was amazing. She was so full of information on how to get around downtown Chicago and about all the great history. I highly suggest taking this tour on your first day so you can have the useful info!

We really enjoyed our Pedway Tour led by Alex. He was very well informed and enthusiastic and included a lot of well researched and relevant information. The tour was both above ground and down in the Pedway. We enjoyed the inside of the Chicago Temple building and the outdoor Picasso sculpture. The Chicago DeTours company offers a quality tour. We highly recommend it. Thanks Alex for your enjoyable and informative tour.
