Your tour (depending on route which is determined on the day of) will include notable sites throughout Charleston. This historic carriage ride is operated by Charelstonians whose family's history dates back to the 1600s.
See the Old Exchange building, one of the most historic buildings in America which was finished in 1771 and was the last building constructed by the British before the Revolutionary War. Another famous stop on the tour is Rainbow Row, the longest contiguous rows of pre-revolutionary buildings left in America and the most recognized set of buildings in Charleston. The Edmondston Allston House and the historic White Point Gardens, better known as "The Battery" will also be seen. Your guide will tell you the history behind several historic homes and mansions including Villa Marguerite, the William Washington House and the Famous #2 Meeting Street Inn which overlooks White Point Gardens.
Listen as your guide shares with you the significance of several points of interest along Meeting street including the Calhoun Mansion, the Historic House Museum (The Nathaniel Russel House) and First Scott's Presbyterian Church. As you ride down Church Street, learn about the William Washington House. Other highlights of your tour may include the Miles Brewton House on King Street (known for its Georgian Architecture), the Swordgate House, St Michael’s Episcopal Church (the oldest church structure in the city). See the Four Corners of Law located at the intersection of Meeting and Broad Street famously coined this by Robert Ripley from Ripley’s Believe It or Not fame. While your guide navigates the streets nearest the Battery you might catch a glimpse of Fort Sumter and hear the fascinating history behind the attack on the fort and the beginnings of the “Late Great Unpleasantness”. A good way to see Charleston and acquaint yourself with its history and see the sights that you may want to go back and visit in your own time. The guide showed his knowledge with humour as well as trying to manage a frisky horse.
-
Great tour except that it was COLD and windy. There were no blankets available so we froze. I guess freezing was better than too hot! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Justin was a great guide made the tour very interesting

All 15 of our family went on the carriage ... It was a very hot day in Charleston... I loved the historic idea of the carriage ride but the kids all 7 - from ages 17 to 10 were very concerned for the horse. Our drive r explained the horse was on 1 hour and off 1 hour. It appears it is a political battle in historic Charleston over keeping the horse drawn carriages or getting eliminating them. Our driver, who is from Charleston and a supporter of keeping the carriages, manages shocking to take us by several houses where people who lived, were for eliminating the carriages. He voiced his opinion often. Loved the idea but.......

very good tour guide who also recommended the most amazing resturant, Low Country Bistro. The only thing is there are several routes the guide can take and we thought we were going on the Rainbow Row Tour but the tour guide is told which route to take by a lottery system.
-
Wonderful guide love the horse such character! Tour guide had lots of knowledge. Nice young lad.. Will tell my friends to take this tour.

Horrible experience. I've done this before a few years ago and it was wonderful, informative with great facts and colorful info about the city. This time we had a guide who appeared hung over, never made eye contact with the other riders, contradicted his own info and spent more time urging on the horse who he kept telling us was the slowest horse in the city. Due to his lack of eye contact, heavy accent and tendecy to mumble, even those of us who were from the south could not understand him. It was beyond a dissapointment, I don't know who trains and then reviews these guides but someone is asleep at the reins......

Great tour. sights and roads used are by lottery. 3 colored balls so 3 different routes. Drive was very knowable and entertaining. Will do again and hope for different colored ball.
-
The actual tour was very very good, enjoyed the historic talk and the sights surrounding Charlestons market area.
Good value for money
Criticisms would be that we got there on time but they wouldn't leave for another 30 minutes, frustrating to wait.
Also there are so many other carriage tours around that it's tempting to jump ship and go elsewhere! -
Great introduction and orientation to the city and its history. Phillip, our carriage driver, was excellent. A must-do for anyone new to Charleston.
