Salem Wax Museum From its founding in 1626 through the terrifying Witchcraft Hysteria of 1692, Salem’s vivid history comes alive at the Salem Wax Museum, a compelling museum composed of eerily life-like wax figures. Come face to face with many notable Salem figures such as National Hawthorne, the famed author of The Scarlet Letter and The House of Seven Gables. Meet the pirates of New England, the merciless Witch Trials judge Colonel John Hawthorne, and Tituba, the accused 'witch' who helped fuel the hysteria -- just to name a few!
From the galleries, head to the interactive area to learn about nautical knot tying, do grave stone rubbing on a recreated headstone, and experience what detention during the Hysteria felt like by being locked in a life-size, recreated jail cell!
Afterwards, be sure to visit the impressive museum gift shop, where you can browse a variety of New England maritime souvenirs.
Salem Witch Village Across the street from the Salem Wax Museum is the Salem Witch Village. On your 15-minute guided tour of this historical attraction, immerse yourself in the history of witchcraft in Salem as you learn the difference between myths and realities of witchcraft in both the ancient and modern world.
Your tour guide, who is a practicing witch, will take you through an indoor maze and demonstrate scenes that mark important landmarks in witchcraft history. Hear about the origin of stereotypes such as devil worship, flying on brooms and black cats, and learn about the different persecution periods such as the Salem Witch Trials and the Burning Times of Europe. Your guide will also clarify what it really means to be a witch today. You may be surprised what you learn!
After your tour, browse the gift shop for authentic Pagan and Wiccan items and souvenirs. Don’t miss nearby Old Burying Point, reputed to be the second-oldest burial ground in the country. This was a lot of fun, both the was museum and the witch village. The lady tour guide on the witch village was fun and made the tour more interesting. If visiting the Salem, MA area, something not to miss.

I expected more displays in the Wax Museum to talk about educate on the Salem Witch Trials but found that there were actually very few displays in the museum and there were more displays surrounding fallen ships...actually pretty disappointing.
If you have asthma or allergies...or any other breathing issues...this is NOT the place for you...WAY TOO MANY INCENSES BURNING EVERYWHERE!!
And even though they tell you that everyone takes credit cards, even the street vendors they actually don't. All food street vendors are cash only.
I was also surprised to see that the area really wasn't really very well decorated for Halloween. -
Very cool! The tour at the witch village was a lot of fun!

Was very disappointed. Museum takes all about 5 minutes. The Witch Village is a walk through tour. Very misleading. DO NOT DO THIS TOUR

I expected more. I'm glad I did them so I didn't leave thinking I missed something. But I don't feel like I missed anything.

When we arrived the museum didn't open till 11 and then we were told that the Witch Village was closed. No offer of apology with an 'I don't care attitude by the young girl behind the counter and then we were told we could only receive store credit for the Witch Village forcing us to purchase souvenirs we didn't want.
An offer of a similar tour using the value purchased would have been more acceptable given as tourists from Oz we are unlikely to return to Salem/Boston. Communication of unforeseeable problems to guests that have booked online would be very helpful to allow for changes to planned visits. -
I don't do Haunted houses but my family does. They felt rushed threw the houses and the wax museum needs to be updated very badly.

Short but nice. Guide in Witch Village was very informative.

It is short but a lot of interesting facts. Everything of interest is within a few blocks of here. Definitely worth the price and the gift shops are amazing. Love this town.
