Participate in preliminary activities at the luau such as a hula dance, along with several hands-on options that are great for kids. Your meal is served buffet-style and includes a scrumptious sampling of Hawai’ian cuisine. You can try specialties such as kalua pork (Hawaiian-style pork roasted in an underground oven), lomi-lomi salmon and a variety of seafood. Familiar favorites like mac and cheese or chicken fingers make the meal suitable for a range of palates. Be sure to save room for warm dark chocolate lava cake, banana bread and other mouth-watering desserts. Unlimited drinks are available from the open bar.
After a great meal, take in the show, which features the story of the voyage of Hawai’i Loa and the settlement of the Hawai’ian islands. Before your luau, you may want to arrive early and check out the Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve, located just a few minutes from the Fairmont Orchid. The 1.4-mile (2.25-km) round-trip walk leads to one of the largest concentrations of petroglyphs in the Hawaiian Islands.
