Although you are able to view mantas during daylight hours, they feed most actively at night when many plankton rises towards the water's surface. By using dive lights that are safe for the mantas, you'll be able to attract and get close to the mantas.
Unlike sting rays, mantas are very gentle and don't have teeth, stingers or barbs. These big and beautiful animals are truly amazing, boasting wingspans that can exceed 15 feet (4.5 meters) in width! This was one of the most amazing experiences I have had. We saw around half a dozen different manta rays, sometimes alone and sometimes swimming in groups. Some of them came extremely close to us, even inches away from my face. Some of them swam together, almost in synchronized fashion. It was mesmerizing. Keep in mind that even though wetsuits are provided, the water was quite cold. The staff was great about helping people that wanted to get back to the boat rather than spending the full hour available in the water although I recommend staying as some of the most amazing encounters we had were near the end of the hour! The warm soup and hot chocolate when we got out of the water were the perfect way to cap off the experience.

Seeing the manta rays feed was one of the most unique and incredible travel experiences I have ever had. The tour ran very smoothly and the crew was lovely. Highly recommend!

This company does it the best. They have a special lighting set up that attracts the mantas and makes for comfortable viewing.

The trip is great, but I am an experience diver, so being restricted to watch them from the surface is a bit annoying. I did enjoy the amazing approaches and acrobatics of the Manta Ray it was only one unfortunately and this is one of the cleverest tours I have even been. You are almost guarantee to see the rays as the lights attracted them to feed the plankton underneath.

Awesome, once in a lifetime experience. Wet suits were provided as well as snorkel gear. Shortly after the boat anchored and put out the lights, mantas were already showing up. The rays get very close and create excellent picture opportunities if you have an underwater phone/camera case. Afterward, hot cocoa, soup, and bread are made available to help you warm up. Highly recommended for anyone staying on the Big Island.

There are several options of tours and we had the best! the biggest boat, best lighting to bring in the Manta Rays. As a certified scuba diver for over 50 years I give this experience a 10 out of 10. The crew was friendly, informative and beyond helpful as my wife has never been in the Ocean or snorkeled one of the dive crew stayed with her for her duration of the experience. After words to have hot soup which was incredible, hot chocolate ready to warm us up was a real treat. Bring your GoPro camera I got an hour ballet of three incredible Mantas so close the big one brushed against me several times and at 16 feet wide she was a beautiful. This is a must do when in Hawaii

What a fantastic experience! Definetly worth every penny! A once in a lifetime experience for us! I would highly recommend taking gravol or some type of motion-sickness pill before getting on the boat as you are floating/bobbing in the sea and on the boat for a very long time. Both my husband and I were quite sick after but so worth the amazing experience of being up close and personal with these beautiful creatures! One came so close that I felt it brush against my arm. Wow!

This tour was incredible! I was very impressed that we got to see these amazing animals so up close and personal. The night time boat crew were friendly and informative. It was a little confusing as to where the boat launch was, but we found it after asking around. I would highly recommend this tour.
